IN LOVING MEMORY OF LIZ PHILLIPS

The world lost a wonderful, special young woman when my dear friend Liz Phillips passed away several years ago. Born with Spina Bifida, Liz’s life was always a battle. But she never complained. She greeted each day with a smile and loved every person she ever met.
I met Liz nearly 20 years ago when I read an article about her in a Detroit newspaper. Her family wanted her to have this special bike that she could pedal with her hands but they couldn’t afford it. I bought it for her and we became the closest of buddies. Our two families spent a lot of time together and Liz was a regular fixture at the boxing matches I was involved in.
Liz traveled to Atlantic City and Las Vegas with us and met many superstars like Muhamad Ali, Donald Trump and The Olsen Twins. She had an enormous photo collection that was proudly displayed at her funeral.
Her amazing parents–Eleanor and Rocky Phillips–are the most special people I know and they made this little girl’s life a heaven on earth. Liz was happy every day, despite her over 150 surgeries.
Now, at last, Liz is in a better place. She will be missed and never forgotten.
